May 15th, Frankfurt

5/15     Wednesday
We head out before noon, along the river walk to the museums. We visit the MMK, Modern art. It’s very interesting work, lots of video installations, beautiful building. Disappointed that there are no Gerhard Richters, as described in one guidebook. Afterwards, we stop at a café in the plaza for latte & crepes. So pleasant. This is a popular area & more tourists are wandering about. Soon enough, we find an authentic butcher shop/deli & stop to take photos of the beautiful meats. It’s too much to resist, so we order a brat & a couple of beers. Highly satisfying. We window shop a bit, very high-end stuff here, titanium luggage, Rolex, Italian housewares, busloads of Japanese tourists.
Next attraction is the Main Tower, 4th highest in Germany. The observation deck is fun, make the city look so pleasant. We see lots of green roofs on the buildings. There’s a mix of old & new, business & residential & parks. The city isn’t know as a tourist destination, but the quality of life for the residents makes it a nice city to visit. We’re seeing lots of locals enjoying their city, & we’re just joining in.
For dinner, we have to make one more visit to Zum Germalter Haus for a pork chop, & we’re glad we do. This time we top it off with a calvados, served with an apricot garnish.
